Padel for everyone

Napton Padel Club is a registered charity, run by volunteers, for the people of Napton and the surrounding villages. We're building two outdoor padel courts at Napton Sports Field so that anyone – whatever their age, ability or budget – can play a sociable, healthy sport close to home.

What the charity does

As set out on the Charity Commission register, we promote participation in healthy recreation in the local community by:

1. providing facilities for padel tennis; and
2. making grants to local sports clubs whose sport promotes physical health, fitness and wellbeing.

Why padel, and why Napton?

Padel is one of the easiest racket sports to pick up. It's played in doubles on a small, enclosed court, the ball stays in play for longer, and it doesn't rely on power – so beginners, older players and families can enjoy a proper game from their very first session. It's also naturally sociable: you always play with three other people.

Until now, the nearest courts have meant a drive to a commercial centre. Our aim is to put good-quality courts within walking distance for Napton residents, at prices set by a charity rather than a business.

Who the club is for

Napton residents

Residents of Napton parish and Napton Sports Association committee members get a membership discount and a discount on coaching. Check if your address is in the parish.

Children and young people

Discounted junior and family memberships, junior coaching, and a club that follows LTA safeguarding standards. See our safeguarding page.

Older players

Discounted membership for people aged 65 and over. Padel's smaller court and slower ball make it a great sport for staying active.

Players with disability

Discounted membership for people with disability, and a commitment to make reasonable adjustments to access, parking and sessions. Tell us what you need and we'll do our best to make it work.

Beginners

You don't need any experience or equipment. Our coach runs group and individual lessons, and rackets and balls are free to borrow.

Non-members

You don't have to join to play. Pay to Play (Day Membership) lets anyone book a court without signing up for a year.

What we're planning to offer

When the courts open, alongside member and Pay to Play bookings, the club plans to run:

  • Coaching – pairs and group lessons with Lee Moreton, a Level 4 tennis coach working towards his Level 2 padel coaching qualification, with discounts for members and Napton residents.
  • Beginner and social sessions – a friendly way to try padel and meet other players.
  • Sessions for local schools – introducing children to the sport, including 20 hours of free coaching a year for St Lawrence Church of England Primary School.

Timetables and prices will be published here and in our newsletter once the courts are open.

Backed by the village

Before applying for funding, we asked the village what it wanted. In our June 2025 community survey:

37%
of Napton households took part
98%
of those who responded supported building padel courts

The project is funded by a grant from Sport England and a loan from Warwickshire LTA, together with support from local people and businesses.

Designed with people with disability in mind

Alongside the village survey, we ran a separate accessibility survey in summer 2025, asking people with long-term health conditions or impairments – and those who support them – what would help them play. Here's what they told us, and what we're doing about it.

"Somewhere to sit"

Seating was the most-requested feature, including lower seating. We're planning covered seating beside the courts, so people can rest between games, watch, or wait for their booking.

"Help me feel welcome"

Not feeling welcome or included was the barrier people mentioned most. We're committed to making the club welcoming for people with disability. Tell us what would help and we'll make reasonable adjustments wherever we can. If you'd like someone to meet you on your first visit, show you around and introduce you to other players, just ask and we'll arrange it. Our coach and volunteers will also be briefed on disability awareness.

"Coaching that understands"

People asked for patient, friendly instruction that suits players who tire easily. Our coach will adapt sessions to suit each player, and lessons can be in pairs or small groups.

"Simple booking"

Courts are booked through a simple online system, so you can see what's free and book from your phone, without phoning round.

"Good lighting and signs"

The courts are floodlit, and we'll put clear signs and emergency information at the courts.

"Cost shouldn't stop you"

People with disability get discounted membership, and Pay to Play means you don't have to commit to a year.

Still to solve: people told us that accessible toilets matter. This is a priority we're still working on, and we'll update this page when we have news. If something would make it easier for you to play, please get in touch.

Where the money will go

We're a charity, not a business: nobody takes a profit, and our trustees are unpaid volunteers. Every pound of membership fees and court hire will be used for our charitable purposes.

  1. Running the courts – maintenance, cleaning, lighting, insurance and the booking and access system.
  2. Repaying the loan that helped build the courts.
  3. Keeping padel affordable – resident, junior, over-65 and disability discounts, and inclusive and beginner sessions.
  4. Supporting other local sport – any surplus will be reinvested in our charitable purposes, including support for local sports clubs.

Our annual accounts are filed with the Charity Commission, and our governing documents, policies and handbook are published on our charity documents page.

A safe and welcoming club

Everyone is welcome at Napton Padel Club regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, or sexual orientation. Discrimination, bullying and harassment are not tolerated, on court or online.

We follow the LTA's safeguarding policy and standards, and we have a named Club Safeguarding Lead. Find out more on our safeguarding page, or read our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy (paragraph 5 of our Governance & Operations Handbook).

Get involved

The club is run entirely by volunteers. If you'd like to help with events, maintenance days, coaching support, welcoming new players or behind-the-scenes work, we'd love to hear from you.
