NAPTON PADEL PROJECT UPDATE

October Update Part 4!

A short update this week. We are still waiting on two key decisions — planning permission and confirmation from the LTA regarding a loan to support court construction.

Last week we invited questions. Here are answers to those that came in:

I’ve read padel can be noisy — will it affect the village?”

Padel does make some noise, but typically less than activities like five-a-side football currently played on the MUGA. To be sure though, we commissioned an independent noise survey. It concluded that with the proposed court location the sound would be very unobtrusive, even for the nearest houses. Read the report here.

“Will the courts have roof canopies?”

We have looked at canopies, but they are currently prohibitively expensive. So, the plan is to build two outdoor courts first. If finances allow, and if members want them, canopies can be considered later. As well as allowing people to play when it is raining, there is a side-benefit which is that canopies can reduce noise a little.

“Are the sports fields being used as security for the loans?”

No. Any loans will be based on the club’s forecast income only. In the unlikely event the club was not successful, there would be no financial or legal risk to the Napton Sports Association or Napton Parish Council.

This week’s question:

To help with planning, we’d like to know what days and times you think you would use the courts. Please share your thoughts here.

Thank you again for the thoughtful questions and ongoing support. More updates soon.
